What: Clementine and Jingleheimer-Smith collided vehicles
When: September 30, 2016 at 4:45
Where: Intersection of First Street and Slaughter Lane
Why: Clementine drove in the wrong lane
How: Clementine only being 13 was an underaged driver
On September 30 at 4:45 p.m. Roger Clementine and John Jacob Jingleheimer-Smith collided at the intersection of First Street and Slaughter Lane.
"The collision took a big toll on both the vehicles and the passengers," Authorities said. "The accident could easily have been avoided if some common sense was used by Clementine."
Clementine was 13 driving in lane which caused the collision with Smith, 91. Police later cited Clementine for underage driving.
"All passengers had some sign of injury," Paramedics said. "Mostly minor but Smith suffered from a serious head injury."
Accompanying Smith in the car, was his wife Melba, 67 who gained minor injuries.
"From the accident I obtained a bloody nose but I was most worried about my husband who was older and weak then the young man who collided into us," Said Melba. "He is in serious condition and is currently sleeping in his hospital bed."
Clementine was taken by an ambulance to University Medical Center Brackenridge to be treated.
"When I collided I got a couple cuts on my face," Clementine said. "I take full responsibility for the accident. I was not thinking straight when I stole my uncles car."
Smith was driving a Yugo which could not be fixed after the accident and Clementine was driving his uncles Studebaker which suffered from a crumpled fender.
"I was very disappointed to see our car completely destroyed,"Melba said. "But, I am glad that everyone was okay and that we are still alive because that's whats most important."
Clementine is putting in an effort to replace a portion of the cost for Smith's car and his parents offered to pay part of the medical bill.
" I feel like all the damage was solely caused by my reckless actions and I feel that I must repay the Smith's back for the harm I caused them."
Smith did later recover from his head injury and is staying at his home with his wife while on some medication for his headaches obtained from the incident

What a terrible tragedy! I hope that everyone involved is okay now. A family member of mine experienced something very similar to this when he was a teenager, a bit older than 13, stole their parents’ car and decided to take it for a joy ride. Luckily everyone involved came out of that crash alright.
ReplyDeleteIt is a good thing you are taking responsibility, amazing how one action can change your life. Had it been worse and the injuries were more severe, it could have negatively impacted you for the rest of your life. I think too many kids today do not understand the damage they can cause behind the wheel because they don't have schooling like younger generations.
