Teachers and faculty at the Bowie High
School pep rally awarded freshman, Risako Nishiyama student of the month on September 15.
"We came to this decision because we all agreed that she was an excellent role model for other students," Teacher Jane smith said. "When I found out she was student of the month I was extremely proud. Even though, there are many qualified students for this award, I think she well deserved it."Risako is a hard worker and likes working with her peers. She is involved in Dance, has A's in all her classes, and speaks two different languages. "I was surprised because because I didn't think I would receive this award," Risako said modestly."I am social and I like working with people, so the best thing about being student of the month is getting a lot of attention."
Risako specifically qualifies for this award due to her behavior in class.
"Risako is a good student because she tries her best in everything she does and she always turns in everything on time. She also helps students understand if they struggle and if she needs help she asks for it," Teacher Jane Smith said.
The Award will be displayed in the glass showcase located in the library.
Receiving this award is an honor and comes with many benefits.
"The award looks good for college and helps get me into NHS which will benefit me in the future."

Along with benefits comes responsibility, Risako is required to speak at graduation about the work she put into receiving the award.
"I think I received this award because I'm a good student and I get involved with the school," Risako said. "
Risako gives advice to students looking to be granted this award in the future.
"You have to get good grades, work hard in class, and be involved," Risako said.
Teacher Jane Smith also provides knowledge of eligibility for students.
"The advice I would give to students is to try your best and get involved," Smith said.
Other then being student of the month, Risako is adored and loved by her friends.
I am friends with Risako because she is super sweet and nice. I love how she is so easy to talk to and she is very helpful," Risako's friend Kate Ginger said.
Kate Ginger describes Risako's personality and some of her traits.
"Risako can be quiet but once you get to know her she is funny, nice and very outgoing. My favorite thing about her is how understanding she is," Ginger said.
