My Top Story of the Century

1.Women win the vote. 1920.
In this event basically women won the right to vote without exceptions throughout the nation. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony are the two main suffragists that impacted this event. They worked for years as Women's rights activist this was one of there biggest accomplishments. I think that this event it in the top 3 because it kickstarted women's rights movements and gave me the right to vote. I also think its important because it was the start of diminishing gender stereotypes. For example, Hilary Clinton became the first female presidential candidate recently and there are many female CEOs and leaders.

2.Brown vs. Board of Education ends "separate but equal" school segregation. 1954.
Brown vs. Board of Education is the supreme court case that ruled school segregation illegal. The integration of schools was a big accomplishment for the civil rights movement. This overturned the Plessy vs. Ferguson case that allowed states to make the decision of segregated schools. I think this is one of the most important stories because it gave equality to all people and allowed them to get a better education. I also think this made two ends meet and allowed us to diminish the past.

3.United States drops atomic bombs on Hiroshima, Nagasaki: Japan surrenders to end World War II. 1945.

On August 6th ,1945 the United States dropped the worlds first atomic bomb on Hiroshima wiping out tens of thousands of people. Then three days later the United States dropped the second bomb in Nagasaki killing thousands and leaving others to suffer and eventually die from radiation. These events caused Japan to surrender in WWII. I think this is one of the top stories of the century because this event caused such tragedy to Japan and also started a world wide controversy. Controversy over the use of nuclear weapons continues to this very day and is everywhere in politics. This also brought a whole new power into the world as well as a new fear.
