FINAL STORY

On September 15, 2016 Steve and Rachel's wedding was interrupted by Tom at a Chapel in Rome, Italy.
After half the ceremony passed, Tom stops the wedding to confess his love for Rachel before she gets married to Steve. He stops in front of the couple as Rachel and Steve both look at him surprised. Tom successfully states his love for her through a long speech made in front of all the guests. Steve, very confused, stands in shock while Rachel expresses her true feelings for Tom. Rachel has been aware of her feelings for Tom for a very long time despite her engagement to Steve. Tom and Rachel both rush out of the Chapel. Rachel as a runaway bride leaves Steve at the alter. The new couple drives off to florence where they sort out the new relationship and enjoy their time together.

Tom arrived to the wedding in his Volkswagen, driving all the way from Bologna, Italy. He approached many obstacles along the way that delayed his arrival. The weather and other vehicles created tension for Tom as he traveled across the landscape. Despite the obstacles, Tom fortunately made it to the wedding with enough time to win the girl. Tom did not realize the love he found in Rachel until the day of the wedding.

Prior to this event, Tom and Steve were best friends who met in high school. Both of them went to college at Sapienza University of Rome where they met Rachel. Originally, Tom and Rachel dated until there breakup two years before Steve and Rachel's engagement. Tom and Rachel broke up to pursue there own careers despite the love they had for each other.  Rachel wasn't aware of the feelings she still had for Tom so she pursued a relationship with Steve. Rachel and Steve started to work together at a law firm after college and fell in love.

Tom, working in Bologna, was unaware of the relationship until the day he got the invitation to the wedding. He continued with his work as a lawyer in Bologna not to be bothered by the invitation. He then contacted Rachel, Steve, and both families to congratulate them on the engagement. He specifically talk to Rachel's dad who he is very good friends with. While talking to Tom, Rachel's dad disclaimed that he knew that both Rachel and Tom had feelings for each other. He also stated that Rachel looked unsure before the ceremony in her dressing room. He had predicted toms actions prior to the wedding and was expecting his arrival.

Long Response:
The 9/11 bill allows families of the people killed in the 9/11 attacks to sue Saudi Arabia. This is significant because it is the first veto in Obama's presidency to be overridden. Obama warned congress that this bill could "be devastating to the Department of Defense and it's service members." He also says that it will definitely conflict with foreign affairs. I do not think that Americans should sue a foreign country because it could make issues within foreign affairs. I also think that gaining money from a country is less important then having good relations with a country. I also think that we could abuse the power we are given and start suing different countries which could completely destroy foreign relations. I think there is definitely going to be consequences that come out of the 9/11 bill. We have been good allies with Saudi Arabia for many years and I believe this is unfair to Saudi Arabia.  I think that we should not be stuck in the past and move towards the future of allying and making good relations with different countries. Although Justice is very important, keeping peace in the future is crucial.

My Top Story of the Century

1.Women win the vote. 1920.
In this event basically women won the right to vote without exceptions throughout the nation. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony are the two main suffragists that impacted this event. They worked for years as Women's rights activist this was one of there biggest accomplishments. I think that this event it in the top 3 because it kickstarted women's rights movements and gave me the right to vote. I also think its important because it was the start of diminishing gender stereotypes. For example, Hilary Clinton became the first female presidential candidate recently and there are many female CEOs and leaders.

2.Brown vs. Board of Education ends "separate but equal" school segregation. 1954.
Brown vs. Board of Education is the supreme court case that ruled school segregation illegal. The integration of schools was a big accomplishment for the civil rights movement. This overturned the Plessy vs. Ferguson case that allowed states to make the decision of segregated schools. I think this is one of the most important stories because it gave equality to all people and allowed them to get a better education. I also think this made two ends meet and allowed us to diminish the past.

3.United States drops atomic bombs on Hiroshima, Nagasaki: Japan surrenders to end World War II. 1945.

On August 6th ,1945 the United States dropped the worlds first atomic bomb on Hiroshima wiping out tens of thousands of people. Then three days later the United States dropped the second bomb in Nagasaki killing thousands and leaving others to suffer and eventually die from radiation. These events caused Japan to surrender in WWII. I think this is one of the top stories of the century because this event caused such tragedy to Japan and also started a world wide controversy. Controversy over the use of nuclear weapons continues to this very day and is everywhere in politics. This also brought a whole new power into the world as well as a new fear.

Long Response
The small gap in the Texas polls is significant because Texas is usually an all red state or in other terms clearly republican. I think the gap is changing bc Texas is becoming more diverse with more people moving from places like California and Mexico. I think the race for presidency is really that close because this is such a controversial election. Most people have a very strong opinion about either candidate which affects the swing of the votes. There are also those people that can be voting because they dislike one of the candidates so they vote for the other. If I could vote I would vote for Hilary Clinton I believe that she is way more qualified to be in the position of president due to her past as first lady, secretary of state, etc. Unlike Trump, Hilary also has a plan she explains how she's is going to fulfill her promises. She could also become the first woman president of the United States. I think my parents beliefs and my beliefs are extremely similar especially with my mom. I always talk politics with her and I enjoy doing so. On the other hand my grandparents and other family members views are a little different then mine. I think a potential should use there instinct and morality to decide the next leader of our country. I also think they should keep in mind the whole country rather then there personal benefits. Coming from that I think that one of the problems in our country is people are too focused on themselves then the general population. The president of the United states plays a role in being a public figure for others and makes decisions on important issues. The president also is the figure of our country they are representing our country so voters should keep in mind would they want Hilary or Trump to be the representation of our country.

Tiny Houses
The advantages of having a tiny house are going greener and the cost of living is less. The disadvantages of living in these houses include lack of space and finding a lot or space that will allow the house. The cost of a tiny house ranges from $6,884 to $59,884. The company that sells the specific houses in the article is Tiny living by 84 Lumber. I think I could live in a tiny house for like a month and then I'd get tired of the small space. I don't think I'd last because I really need my space. I definitely could not live in a tiny house with anyone except for myself. For long term housing I'd like to stick with a normal sized living space. Although, I do think that tiny houses are great for people who don't want to spend as much money and they are great for the environment because they use less.

New Ethics in Journalism

Using the 'Holocaust' Metaphor

Summary:
Ingrid Newkirk (CEO of PETA made the decision to release a controversial campaign comparing the murder of animals to a genocide using the phrase "Holocaust on Your Plate". PETA is the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals and is known for their controversial ideas from the past. Many people in and out of the Jewish Community are offended by this campaign as well as whole countries. Germany banned this campaign from there country as well as the European Court of Human Rights.
Opinion:
I believe that this campaign should not compare the Holocaust to animal slaughter. I believe this because it is extremely offense to communities of Jewish people and others who were involved in the Holocaust. I also feel like they are comparing animals to people which is considered dehumanization and is very unethical.

Aaargh! Pirates! (and the Press)

Summary:
The Ting Ting's new album was leaked on month before it was released. Music news sights such as The Rolling Stones and Billboard covered the story on this incident but also included a link to find the leaked music. The music industry has been struggling with problems with illegal file sharing which make the community not consume these files through purchases .
Opinion:
I think that when covering stories like these the author should not include a link or any way to get to the illegal files. Although, I do believe it is ethical to publish stories that share the information of the event and make people aware that its out there. I think this is fine because its only a share of information and its a personal choice to listen to the illegal files.

Publishing Drunk Drivers' Photos

Summary:
The Anderson News begins to publish pictures of convicted drunk drivers weekly rather then names. There theory is that this will scare drunk drivers off there streets to keep them safe. On the front page of one issue its states,"HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR, but please don't drink and drive and risk having your pictures published," hoping to put this theory in place.
Opinion:
I think that even though this policy has good intentions but it is still unethical to post pictures in the local news of drunk drivers. I believe this because by publishing these pictures it could ruin someones life for something they've done in the past. Don't get me wrong drunk driving is a serious offense but not enough to embarrass the people who have done so. I also think that a name in the paper is fair and still teaches these people a lesson but a picture is bigger and easier to spot in a paper then a name.
