Feature Writing Preview

1. What is the difference between a hard news lead (lede) and the one you read above?
The difference between news lead and the one I just read was the lead is about multiple people and an event that happened while feature writing is about one person.
2. What paragraph(s) did you learn the following information?
a. Who- Homeless man named Ted Williams
b. What- Has gone from homeless to sensational in a matter of days
c. Where- Hudson Street ramp
d. When- Wednesday, January 5, 2011
e. Why- He is very talented with his voice
f. How- Someone took a video of him

3. Are there quotes in this story?
Yes there are quotes.
4. Are those quotes arranged in the "quote-transiton" style we used in news writing?
The story is not fully arranged in "quote-trasition: style.
5. Who is quoted in the story?
Ted Williams
Kevin McLoughlin
Doral Chenoweth III
Ken Andrews
Tony Florentino
 Shane Cormier
Frank Willson
Patrick Harris
6. What quote is the most powerful in the story, in your opinion?
The most powerful quote in the story is,"We could make him a millionaire," Cormier said. I found this the most powerful because of his discovered talent he could go from homeless to a millionaire in a matter of days which gives hope to others.
7. How many paragraphs is the story?
There are about 33 paragraphs
8. How many words is the story (hint: you can copy and paste into Word and get a word count)?
762 words
9. What is significant about the lead (lede) and the final paragraph of the story?
The lead allows you to see where he started and the final shows where he is at now due to his voice.
10. Why do you think the writer did that with the lead (lede) and final paragraph?
I think he did this as a way to organize the paper and make it more interesting for the reader.
11. Was the story interesting to read?
Yes it was.
12. When you finished the story, but BEFORE you watched the video, did you want to hear the voice?
Yes I did.
13. Multimedia approaches are powerful tools, what impact did the video have when watched directly after reading the story?
I thought his voice was really cool and it showed me what all the hype was about.
14. Would the story have lost its impact without the video?
It could have unless this was a local paper and everyone already knew his voice. It would have probably been insignificant to the people who haven't heard his voice.
15. Did the writer try to come up with a way for you to hear the voice, i.e. did he try to describe the voice or give you a way to "hear" the voice without really hearing it?
Yes the writer did.
16. How did the writer do that?
He describes it vaguely but also included quotes from people who wanted his voice which gives you an idea of what is sounds like
