Feature Story Brainstorm

1. Who is your main subject?
My main subject is my Grandpa or my dad.
2. Supporting interviews (who else do you need to talk to, minimum 2 other people)?
My supporting interviews will be of my dad and my grandma.
3. What is the topic or potential topic?

The potential topic is immigration or an interesting story about his life in another country.
4. Which angle from above will you write the story?
First Hand Experience
5. Then to help you get going faster, come up with 20 questions that you can ask your main subject. Type these in your blog.

1. Who was with you when you moved?
2. How did you feel leaving the house?
3. What were your thoughts when entering a new country?
4. How did you feel when you saw the new country for the first time?
5. Did you have a plan for your future?
6. How did moving to a different country affect the course of your life and your character?
7. Where did you move from?
8. Where did you move to?
9. What was the process you had to undergo to get into the country?
10. What things changed for you when you entered the country?
11. What pull factors did the country have?
12. How did moving change your life for better?
13. How did it change for worse?
14. Why did you move?
15. What happened after you moved and settled down for a while?
16. Did you meet any new people?
17. Compare the customs of each country.
18. What type of transportation did you use?
19. Describe where you lived.
20. What were the current events of both countries at the time.

6. Once you complete that portion, you need to come up with 5-10 questions you need to ask your supporting interviews. Type these into your blog. You may need different questions for each supporting subject.
1. How did this affect your life?

2. How did you meet Grandpa?
3. Could you tell he was from somewhere else?
4. What did you think the first time you met him?
5. Did you ever meet in the past without knowing each other?

1. How did Grandpa's immigration affect your life?
2. Do you think your life would be different if he didn't move?

7. You will need to do a little research on the topic you expect to interview your main subject about. Take a little time and do some google searching - find at least 5 new things about the intended topic you should know before you interview your main subject. List those on your blog.

Capital of Bolivia is La Paz
Bolivia is has a republic government

8. Write when you plan to conduct the interview(s)?

I plan to conduct all this really anytime over the break because my grandparents live in Austin.

9. Where you will interview them (some interviews are better to do in the persons environment, while others should be done in public places, ALL interviews should be done in person)?
I would interview them at my house or their house or over dinner.

10. How will you record the information? (taking notes is ideal, and if you want to record the conversation you MUST get permission. You can do both if they will allow you to record, this is a really strong technique that you could use.)

I will record the information on my phone in the memos app. I will also take notes of important things to remember.
