As I walked into Carolina Holme's small one story house located in south Austin I noticed many small trinkets and pieces of foreign art around the house. Holme is an immigrant from Bolivia who descended from Chilean and German Parents. After she moved to the United States with her husband she still continues to travel around the world.
"I have never gave up my curiosity for different sights, smells, and tastes. It is apart of who I am and I will never let this lively trait slip from me," Holme said.
As I make my way to the garage, I pass the kitchen where I pick up the aroma of a chilean dish baking in the oven. I then ask Holme to raid her car. At first she is confused, but after a small explanation she welcomes me to do whatever I must to complete this story. I then open the garage to reveal a black 2015 Acura MDX.
"I bought this specific car because it is really safe and great for the grandchildren and the family," Holme said.
I then open the car door and start looking around. The compartments are filled with everything one could imagine including tissues, fruit snacks, plant seeds, and many other random items. Although there were so many items to talk about I decided to ask Holme about a few trinkets that caught my eye. The first thing I saw was a small cactus in the passenger seat almost fully tipped over.
"I love gardening and cacti are really easy to take care of. When the buds bloom into flowers it looks beautiful and its one of the only things that grows in Texas," Holme said.
Another thing I saw were a bunch of small blue pillows in the back seat that look used and worn. "I'm a small person and I've shrunk as I got older. I need these pillows to make me taller so I can drive," Holme said.
I then looked through the compartment on the side of the drivers seat and found two things that caught my eye. One of the items was a gold heart necklace.
"The necklace was a gift from my sister for my 60th birthday. It was really special to me because I don't see her a lot so I carry it everywhere I go," Holme said.
The other item was an old red leather wallet with polaroids of Holme's family.
"I like to have these pictures to show my friends and brag about how great my grandchildren are," Holme said.

Comey was fired due to a controversy with Donald Trump over his investigation. Trump also claims to have fired him because of his "lack of confidence in his ability to lead the agency." It is important to know that leaders are removed from their position because the people must know who is in power and it is the peoples concern due to the fact the FBI has to do with the nations safety. This story has been getting a lot of coverage due to the skepticism of Trump's corrupt relations with Russia and the fact the Comey was investigating these relations and he got fired in the act of investigating. I think there should be because then Trump will have no power to stop this independent investigator without doing something illegal. I do think there is a connection due to the fact that Putin praises trump and that Trump has exposed american secrets to Russia. I think that there are many people out there investigating these relations but there could definitely be more.

President Trump views state that he believes there is no possibility the United States and Russia could be allies. The United States government and Trump are investigating plans Russia has that the United States did not know about nor agreed with. Trump used to be praised by Putin and had plans on seeking out further relationships with Russia. I believe that Trumps views still haven't changed and he is lying to the American people. Russia will most likely not respond to this but if they do it will be minor. I think it will impact me if Russia takes action with the US or I will continue to hear constant news about Russia and the US in the media.

Pirates and SEALS and Ships Oh my!
Captain Phllips is an invigorating film about an American Cargo Ship captain who gets kidnapped by Somali Pirates whilst he is out at sea. Tom Hanks plays Captain Phillips who is captured by Muse (Barked Abdi), Faisal Ahmed (Najee), and Mahat M. Ali (Elmi) aka the Somalian Pirates. I like how the actors portray the pirates as poor Somali fishermen rather then ravenous murderers. This then creates an emotional attachment between characters as well as the watcher due to the fact it shows they are human. Humanizing all characters creates a theme that everyone has a background, even if they are scary pirates. The ensemble effort overall is magnificent which is evident in the chosen cast. As Phillips and the Pirates are out on see the United States Navy is notified of pirate activity and the hostage. This is is indicated by dialogue and costume as well as the choice of actors for these parts. The part of Max Martini as the SEAL commander is especially authentic to me due to the decisions he made to keep Captain Phillips alive. They way he negotiated with the pirates to me (a rabid law and order watcher) seemed extremely real life and authentic. I personally thought this movie appealed to all senses and leaves you at the end of your seat until the very end. The balance between suspense and the rest of the movie is exceptional and is tastefully chosen to make the movie control the watchers emotions. The emotion and reality of the events in this picture really allow watchers to feel like they are transported into the movie, these effects keep the watchers attention throughout the whole movie. The action and down time of the movie is delicately balanced to do this as well and it truly does evoke the senses of the watcher. The setting to me was very realistic and the lighting in dark scenes really enhances this. The camera work adds an extra touch of authenticity due to the fact that it is never actually stable as it would be out on sea. In the end, the emotion that comes from Tom Hanks is very effective to spark empathy in the watcher. The Audience Demographic of Captain Phillips would be for adults and teenagers who are looking for a thrilling, realistic action movie. I would give this movie an eight out of ten because although it is not the most interesting plot it is carried out spectacularly and sticks to the historical events pretty closely.
Movie Review Notes
- emotional attachment to the kid
- Pirates are not portrayed as murderers but as poor somalis
- The after shock of the captain evokes empathy in watchers
- characters evoke biased in watchers (like some better then others)

Long Response:
Sanctuary Cities are cities that states have that allow illegal immigrants to stay in the United States without the pressure of deportation from the national government. I think sanctuary cities are good for the United States because obtaining citizenship is a long and hard process that takes time and money. Relieving the worry of deportation from these immigrants is very important and helpful to them. SB4 will eliminate sanctuary cities. 90-52 was the vote on SB4. I think SB4 will not have a big affect on our community and the lack of it would keep the way we have been running and we have been doing great.

1. Who are the main characters you would expect to see in the movie, based on the real life events?
The Crew
Larry Aasheim
Hamac
Richard Phillips
Ali Aden Elmi
Frank Castellano
2. Briefly, in 2-3 paragraphs, tell me what you expect the plot to be in the movie, based on the real life events?
I would expect the plot to be about an American Cargo ship that was attacked by Somali Pirates. I suspect that the movie would follow the plot line very closely with the crew members staying in the engine room and exchanging one of the pirates. I would also expect Phillips story of how he was taken by the pirates on the life boat and how he managed with that. I would also expect to see the crime scene and how other authorities are involved before they found Phillip.
3. Why was this story important?
The story was important because the events that took place were not very common before especially in the United states.
4. Why did the pirates try to take the ship?

Beauty and The Beast
1. The New Yorker
2. Anthony Lane
3. 7, sometimes hard to follow
4. The movie is high quality, the animation is great, and the movie incorporates diversity.
5. Some low points include different music from previous remakes of this movie, awkward start of music, and the weak voice of Belle.
6. "Still, the sheer dexterity is overwhelming, and only the sternest viewer will be able to resist the onslaught of such thoroughly marketed magic. “Beauty and the Beast” is delectably done; when it’s over, though, and when the spell is snapped, it melts away, like cotton candy on the tongue."
La La Land
1. NPR
2. Linda Holmes
3. 7, easy to follow although there is not many cons in the article
4. High points of the movie include the element fantasy, stunning costumes, and a simple plot that is taken into a breathtaking movie.
5. Low points of the movie are that Gosling and Stone are not musical people although they are very charismatic and are capable of the part
6. "It's a movie for people who love darkened theaters, who love movies, who love movie stars, and who love giving themselves over to other people's art without a pause for cynicism."

2. The United States (Carli Lloyd apart of team)

5. Canada
4. SUMMARY
As of this year the US Women's National Team has played a total of 3 games internationally with 2 losses and a win. Last year the team played a total of 25 games, won 22 and tied 3. In 2015, the USWNST won the Fifa Women's World Cup in Canada with Carli Lloyd three of the five goals winning the title against Japan. Although the USWNST has won many gold olympic medals they did not receive the title last year or even make it to the finals and the title was taken by Germany. Three important rules in soccer are you cannot touch the ball with your hand or arm unless you are the goalie, you cannot be offsides or past the last defender before the ball is kicked, and you must take the correct kicks for when the ball goes out of bounds in certain areas. Jargon that is used in soccer includes Maradona, nutmeg, and hat trick. The Maradona is a move used when you want to pass a player where you use your body to spin around the ball distracting the other player. A nutmeg is when the ball goes through someone legs in anyway. A hat trick is when a single player scores three goals or more in a single game. A cliche is that male soccer players are actors because of the amount of fake injuries players use to get foul on the other team. This is true but it is strategical towards the game and helps the team if they are loosing badly. An athlete who is a legend is Lionel Messi also known as one of the best soccer players in the world. Messi was born on June 24, 1987 and he did not go to college. He currently plays for Barcelona and previously played on Argentina. He is the only player in history to score more then 40 goals in 8 consecutive seasons and he has won the most FIFA Ballon d'Or awards.

5.Read the review of Power Rangers on page 32 of Austin 360. Do you want to go see the movie?
No, it doesn't not seem very good.
Long Response:
Sophomore at Hays High school, Brynn Aylor was killed in a car accident on Wednesday. As she traveled down Jack C. Hays Trail she lost control when a pickup passed her in a no pick up zone and the collided with another car. I think new drivers should get simulations of what to do when others drive recklessly or are out of control. I do have plans to start drivers ed. soon when I have time off from school. I do think they should have controls in their car that keep them from using electronic devices because they are more prone to accidents. I do think 15 and 16 year olds should be allowed to drive because it is a good time to practice before going off to college and its another milestone that should be completed during the teenage years.

Eyes, a muted green covered by shadows of dusty golden brown that inset deep into the head. The edges delicately almond shaped are engulfed in eyelashes which line the border. From the eyes the nose extends and ends quickly as it curves out. Freckles dot the surface and come and go as the seasons change. Hair, bend into long, frizzy waves with small curls shaping the face. Brown thick locks immerse the top of the head with small sections of golden highlights that reflect the sun. Neck short like the rest extends towards a delicate collarbone ending up at broad wide shoulders. On the right shoulder 3 moles dot there way to the neck with one in the center. Skin, pale like ivory and with weird tan lines marking the outlines of athletic clothing. A warm undertone one from decents of the fathers side. Arms, short and little like the wingspan of a hummingbird make it hard to reach tall areas but easy to reach small. From the shoulder areas of freckles run down until the finger tips. At the nails chipped lilac and pink nail polish wear away, creating cracks like shattered glass. Stomach, a fit build of a soccer player with a dot above the hole that caves in. Back delicate, with an outline of the spin curves to create a silhouette. With a single brown sphere in the lower area of my back that has been cleanly put into the indent of the spin is placed next to another faded freckle. The legs, muscular, short and strong. Made for a runner and a player, they can handle the extreme. Scared, bruised, beat, and cut they with hold and don't stop. On the right knee a scar is left one that looks like a spider long thick legs. Above is another scar, one that is similar but not as severe lays directly above and feels like a tough, rigid plain. Hips, small and problematic create problems with athletic performance while bringing pain to the structure. The ankles, gentle and strong holding up the rest of the legs and hips. Feet, veiny and wide with petite toes that line the top edge. Lips are red flushed with the essence of a rose. A plump lip is covered with imperfections and scars along the outside perimeters but are still as beautiful as if it were perfect. Cheeks, rosy and red, never seem to calm down. This is my body. I am beautiful.

Long Response:
I do not think President Obama ordered any survelince on Donald Trump because the whole situation is based of Trump's allies in which they could be making up some total bull crap. Yes he should apologize to Obama especially since Trump has said some other things about him. Even if Trump is proven wrong he is not going to apologize because he needs to protect his ego. The result if Trump refuses is mass media coverage over it and it would look horrible for him. Due to his connections to Russia and his close relationship with Putin is one of the reasons why the election is being investigated. The punishment should be he should be kicked out of office and sentenced to prison because tampering with the election process is illegal and on such a big scale makes it a lot worse. I don't trust Trump. I do not trust the GOP because they let him get this far and he's said some horrible things and tried to pass some horrible bills.

Front Pages of the World
What is your favorite newspaper front page? Why?
What is your favorite headline from that newspaper? Why are you interested in it?
How many stories are on the front page of your favorite?
What do you notice that all newspaper front pages have in common? Look at design, size of photos, size of story text, etc.
What are things that vary (or are different) on the front pages of different newspapers? Look at design, size of photos, size of headlines, etc.
My favorite front page was Lidove Noviny because there was a color scheme and I like how a lot of the color took up the page and still made the paper look neat.
What is your favorite headline from that newspaper? Why are you interested in it?
I could not read the headlines they were in a different language.

Seven
What do you notice that all newspaper front pages have in common? Look at design, size of photos, size of story text, etc.
All newspapers have a name, a headline, a couple of pictures, and eyeliner, and a very neat look. I can also see that stories start but never finish on the same page as the front cover.
What are things that vary (or are different) on the front pages of different newspapers? Look at design, size of photos, size of headlines, etc.
Things that are different include font, colors, and sizes of pictures and the amount of space they take up.

Long Response:
The basic idea of school choice is that families must compete on a free market and choose which schools their children would like to go to. Douglas Harris does not like school choice and thinks it is not fit for education. Brendan Steinhouser's likes school choice because he believes in free market and is a conservative. I did attend a private preschool but I switched to public school. For me private school and public school were very similar but private school was much smaller. My parents do not believe in school choice so if I wanted to go to a private school they would pay for it but if I didn't want to then they wouldn't. I don't find any specific interest in a private school because if I did I would not be at Bowie. I think some advantages of going to a private school is maybe nicer materials and facilities as well as more money in general. I think some disadvantages of going to a private school is that it is more secluded and not monitored by the state.
